Earl Castine

November 18, 1920 — January 10, 2018

Earl Robert Castine, Sr. 97, of Mount Airy, Maryland, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 10, 2018.

Born on November 18, 1920, in Mineral Point, PA, he was the son of the late John Miller Castine and Ella May (Lewis) Castine.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his in laws, John A. Behe and Anna Marie Behe and all of his siblings, Roy, Alfred, Leonard, Martha, Hazel and Lillian.  He was the last man standing.

He married Elaine Behe on April 24, 1953, in Nanty Glo, Pennsylvania.

He served in the U.S. Army Engineers, from December 1939- July 1945 serving in the Pacific during World War II.

Earl graduated from Harpur College, (now SUNY Binghamton), in Binghamton, NY.

His career was in Broadcasting.  He retired from the Voice of America, Department of State.  He was also a HAM radio operator.  Earl's hobbie's were woodworking, gardening, crabbing, watching the Orioles and Redskins, attending his grandkids sporting events and reciting h.s.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years,  Elaine Castine, his children, Earl R. Castine, Jr. and his wife Cynthia, Jack Castine, Ellen Castine Staub Smith and her husband Richard Smith, Lee Newman; his grandchildren, Tiffany Elaine Castine and husband Brad Cooke, Craig John Castine, Samantha Diane Staub and fiance, Richard Fricke, Jack Benjamin Staub, Margaret Paige Castine, Jennifer Castine, Emily Weinstein and Sara Freshcorn; great grandchildren, Claire Ryan Castine and Theodore Cooke.  Lastly, his beloved "yella cat"

The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville in Mt. Airy, MD.

A celebration of Earl's life journey will follow at 7:30 pm .  Interment Private.

We want to thank his special friend, Tricia Kissner, for spending so much time with Earl.  He loved you dearly.  Thanks also to the staff at Frederick Health and Rehabilitation, for their excellent and loving care and for making him feel at home.  Grace, "Pops" loved you.
