Dwayne Smith

August 31, 1935 — October 29, 2018

Mr. Dwayne Marlin Smith of Middletown, MD. Known to many as Wayne or Smitty, 83,  went peacefully to his eternal rest  on Monday, October 29, 2018 at Kline Hospice House in Mount Airy, MD.

Dwayne was an inspiration to many during his 30 long hard courageous years of various illnesses.

Born on August 31, 1935, in Broad Run, he was the son of the late Floyd J. Smith and Gladys Charlotte Naomi Stockman.

He was the beloved husband & best friend of Doris F. Blank for 13 years, sharing 25 years of friendship, love & commitment.

Dwayne was preceded in death by his first wife, Cora Lee; stepson, Michael Jackman; brothers, Eugen A. Smith & Robert E. Smith.

Dwayne was a 1953 graduate of Middletown High School, served in the U.S. Army from June 1954 - June 1957 with Company C. 5th Engineer Battalion Combat deployed from Ft. Leonard Wood, MO to Germany.  He was proud to be an American, flying the flag in his yard, a member of the Korean War Veterans Association, Chapter 142.

He was employed by Smith Building Contractors & later by Pettit & Griffin, Inc. in Rockville.  He retired from Riggs & Co. in Rockville, MD as a construction superintendent.  After retirement he worked part-time for Ryan Homes.  He was a do-it-yourself man, always busy keeping whatever needed in good condition, never afraid to tackle any job, always organized & meticulous.  He enjoyed music, attending religious, country & patriotic concerts, teaching himself keyboard & guitar.  He also enjoyed entertaining others on his Lowrey organ.  Dwayne was a born again Christian, attended Edgewood Church of God when health permitted.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother, Jack A. Smith & wife, Mary Ann of Jefferson, MD; sister-in-law, Doris E. Smith of Middletown, MD; step-children, Terry Jackman & wife, Judy; Karen Hill, Barbara Stockman & husband, Warren.  He is also survived by step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces & nephews.  He will be remembered by long time friend, Susie Byrne of North Carolina.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, MD.

A celebration of Dwayne's life journey will take place at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 2, 2018, at Stauffer Funeral Home.

Military Honors will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in  Frederick, MD.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Frederick County.
