Duane Wattay passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the age of 50 after a long battle with brain cancer.
Born on September 29, 1966, in Cheverly, Maryland, Duane was the youngest son of Leslie and Ruth Wattay.
He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Mary, and his three wonderful children Lauren, Christine and Luke; Sisters Debbie Mangene, Susan & husband Brian Murphy, Kathleen & husband Jeff Hong; brothers Doug & wife Ellen Wattay, Keith (passed) and Danny & wife Sue; Aunt Betty Green, Uncle Gary Timanus and Aunt Diane Wattay; In laws, Joan Jowers; brother-in-law Rik & wife Giana Jowers; sister-in-law Wendy & husband Sam Trosman. He was loved and will be missed by all of his amazing nieces and nephews: Missy, Jimmy, Michael, Sarah, Alison, Chris, Russell, Philip, Paul, Steve, Malia, Danielle, John, Nick, Katie, Madeline & Tessa. He will also be missed by his adorable great niece and nephews Micah, Carina, Micah, Ethan & Ben.
Duane was a terrific husband and loving father who was always so proud of his family. He was also an avid University of Maryland Terp fan and enjoyed golf, baseball and swimming. He always was the best host for pool parties and crab feasts. He coached baseball and basketball for many years. Each child he coached touched his heart.
The family will receive visitors and friends from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Friday, September 23rd at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Blvd., Mt Airy.
A celebration of Duane’s life journey will take place at Montgomery United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 22 at 2:00pm.
