Drucilla Breeden Lake, 82, of Brunswick, MD, went to be with The Lord on Saturday, December 15, 2012 surrounded by her family at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Thomas E. Lake Jr. who passed away on August 8, 2002.
Born in Brunswick, MD on February 13, 1930 she was the daughter of the late Jobe O. and Lela C. Simons Breeden.
Drucilla graduated from Brunswick High School in 1946 and attended Frederick Community College. She worked for over 26 years at the National Institutes of Health as a Personnel Specialist. She was a former Girl Scout Leader, a member of the Brunswick High School Fabulous Forties Alumni Committee and a beloved member of Jefferson United Church of Christ.
Drucilla was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She enjoyed trips to Ocean City and Florida with her family as well as daily crossword puzzles. She fully enjoyed life.
She is survived by her children, Thomas A. Lake and wife Cyndi of Keymar, Sandra D. Hemp and husband Billy of Jefferson, Linda C. Whipp of Jefferson and Andrea C. Vermillion and husband Skip of Brunswick. Drucilla took great pride in her 15 grandchildren: Angie Hill, Jeff Lake, Keri Albright, Teresa Conto, Rodney Lake, Tommy Lake Jr., Roxy Grossnickle, Daniel Hemp, Brooke Hemp, Robby Whipp, Lesley Whipp, Jamee Sandy, CJ Vermillion, Gabe Vermillion and Kyle Bogard. In addition, she adored her twenty-seven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Betty Smith of Jefferson and brother Joe Breeden and wife Betty Lou of Rohrersville. She will be remembered by numerous cousins, including Glen Dale Simons. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Bobby Whipp, sister, Lorraine Layman, brothers, John Breeden and Robert Breeden and niece, Delores Layman Knott.
Visitation will be on Thursday, December 20, 2012 from 3-5p.m. & 7-9p.m. at the Stauffer Funeral Home, P. A., 1100 North Maple Avenue, Brunswick, MD and on Friday December 21, 2012 at Jefferson United Church of Christ, 3837 Jefferson Pike, Jefferson, MD 21755 from 10:00am until time of funeral services at 11:00am. Her Pastors Rebecca and John Shillingburg will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
