Dr. Robert Shelby Hughes, 85, of Adamstown, passed from this life on Monday, April 2, 2018 at Kline Hospice House in Mount Airy, MD. He was the husband of the late Marianne Seaber Grube Hughes.
Born on July 3, 1932, in Clinton, Missouri, he was the son of the late Dr. Shelby and Aetna Hughes.
Dr. Hughes was a graduate of Central Methodist University in Fayette, MO and of Johns Hopkins Medical School in Baltimore, MD. He then interned at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA and Charity Hospital in Pineville, LA. From there he served two years as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force before moving to Frederick, MD where is established a family practice of medicine for forty years.
He and his family resided in Buckeystown, MD for many years where he was active in the Lions Club. In 2005 he and his wife moved to Homewood Retirement Community at Plum Creek in Hanover, PA. Dr. Hughes continued to do volunteer work for Mission of Mercy as well as at Homewood.
Dr. Hughes is survived by his daughter, Amy Bond Hughes of Long Beach, CA and his son, Charles Bosler Hughes and wife Lisa of Buckeystown, MD; two grandchildren: Kallin Anderson Hughes and Rachael Ann Hughes of Buckeystown, MD; as well as a brother William Bond Hughes of McKinney, Texas. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Anne Grube Hughes in 1970 and a son, Robert S. Hughes, Jr. in 2010.
Following cremation a private interment will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick, MD.
