Dr. Payasada "Paul" Kotrappa

Dr. Payasada “Paul” Kotrappa, a native of Frederick for the past 25 years, passed away of natural causes on Friday, December 15, 2017. He was a world-renowned physicist and the founder/president of Rad Elec, a Frederick based technology company that makes electret Radon detectors. Prior to immigrating to the US in 1986, he was a senior scientist with the Bhabha Atomic Research Center in India. Dr. Kotrappa has authored more than 100 peer reviewed journal articles in Health Physics and Radon and has multiple patents in Radon technology. He has received numerous awards including the scientist of the year from the American Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists.
Paul was a philanthropist and was active in the American-Indian community as a past President of the Frederick India Association. He is survived by his wife Chandra, three children and seven grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702. Services will follow at 3:30 p.m.
