Dr. Nahid Sobhani

April 17, 1939 — December 20, 2015

Dr. Nahid B. Sobhani, of Frederick, MD passed away Sunday, December 20, 2015, surrounded by her loving family.  She was the beloved wife of the late Sabet Sobhani.

Born April 17, 1939 in Tehran, Iran she was the daughter of the late Amir and Moniereh Berjis. She completed her medical training in Iran and due to religious persecution, left her home country in 1968 as a Bahá'í pioneer to Algeria.  She moved to the United States in 1973 and ultimately took permanent residence in Frederick, MD.

Dr. Sobhani was the first female doctor in Frederick and was the co-founder of the Frederick Pediatric Associates.  She was very well known and beloved among three generations of patients.   Dr. Sobhani was a teacher, humanitarian, loving mother, grandmother, sister and deeply devoted Bahá'í (www.bahai.org) who lived a life dedicated to service and uplifting the hearts of all who crossed her path. She was the essence of grace, beauty, generosity, love, strength, devotion and utter spirit.

She is survived by her children, son, Shahin Sobhani, daughter, Shahed Sobhani; daughter-in-law, Dr. Ramona Sobhani; grandchildren Felicia and Kian Sobhani; siblings Aqdas, Farzaneh, Tahereh and Shahram.  She was preceded in death by her brother Parviz.

There will be a service on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 11AM at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.

Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family humbly requests a contribution to the Dr. Sulayman Berjis Foundation (www.dsbf.org), a non-profit foundation she founded and served along with many local and international health care professionals.
