On Wednesday, April 22nd, 2015, at 6AM, Dr. Kitty Than Naing (Dr. Daw Khin Sein) passed away peacefully in her sleep, at her home in Potomac, MD, surrounded by family and loved ones. Born on November 13th, 1922, in Pyinmana, Burma (Myanmar), Dr. Naing immigrated to the United States in 1963 with her husband, Richard Than Naing, and three beloved children, Kathy, Sandra, and Richard.
Dr. Naing was the daughter of Dr. Ahmed and May DeVries Meah. She spent her life in the service of others. She lived during the British Imperialist days of Burma and persevered through the Japanese occupation during WWII.
Her studies at Judson College and Rangoon Medical School in Burma were interrupted by WWII. When the war ended she received a scholarship to study in India for two years before completing her medical studies in Rangoon, Burma. She joined the government service in 1950 and worked in Maymyo General Hospital, Rangoon Maternity and Child Health Center, and Moulmein Maternity and Child Health Center.  After she left the government service in 1956, she co-founded Than Myint, a private clinic and pharmacy in Yangon, where she also practiced medicine. She also founded Wynn Naing, an Haute Couture and Fashion Design Company.
Dr. Naing was a Pediatrician in Yangon (Rangoon), Myanmar (Burma). When she moved to the United States, she studied Computer Programming, and then worked as a Demographer for the Department of Health, Education and Welfare.
A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, friend, and doctor, she is survived by her husband, Richard T. Naing; Daughters, Kathy Malik and Sandra Naing; Son, Richard W. Naing; Grandchildren, Tara and Marisha Malik; Michael and Marco Jelencovich; Richard, Gregory, Anthony, and Bradley-Anne Naing; and Great-Grandson, Gianni Leta.
A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Church (Potomac, MD) on Saturday, April 25th at 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to: St. Jude Children’s Hospital, One Bird Projects, or The Coalition for Refugees from Burma.
