Dr. Julian Kusel

March 9, 1940 — July 5, 2014

Dr. Julian Peter Kusel, 74, of Urbana, MD died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at his home. He was the loving husband of Kathleen Kusel for 46 years.

Born March 9, 1940 in Jersey City, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Julian Joseph and Julia Doviak Kusel.

Peter received his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University and his doctorate from St. Louis University in the field of Medical Microbiology.  He held an assistant professorship at Duke University in Radiobiology.  In addition, he was an accomplished researcher and technical writer in the corporate world and was a published author and editor of scientific research.  He was a Board Certified Editor in the Life Sciences (ELS), one of a select few to hold this certification.  For many years he owned PageDoc, a technical writing and editing business.  In his personal time he was an avid reader and had a great love of history.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Julian Kenneth Kusel and wife, Susan, and their children, David and Matthew, of Arlington, VA; and Brian Nicholas Kusel and wife, Michelle, and their son, Andrew, of Chicago, IL; and his sister, Constance Paller and her children Julie, Joseph, Sara and Andrew of Delaware.

He was predeceased by his parents and his in-laws, Alma and Anthony George Petrie.

A memorial Mass will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, 4103 Prices Distillery Road, Ijamsville, MD with Father Michael Jendrek officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, VA  23060-9979.
