Dr. John O'Rangers, Jr.

Dr. John J. O'Rangers, Jr., 76, of Adamstown, died on January 20, 2013 at his home. He was the husband of Eleanor M. O'Rangers. They were married for 47 years.
Born June 11, 1936 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late, John J., Sr., and Mabel Cope O'Rangers.
He received his bachelor's degree from St. Josephs College in 1958 and his Ph.D in Biochemistry from Hahnemann University in 1972. He held positions in higher education prior to his employment with the Food and Drug Administration in 1976 beginning in the Office of the Commissioner as a science advisor in hormone Bioanalysis. Dr. O'Rangers had an extensive career as a biochemist for the federal government, specializing in Analytical biochemistry of drugs and tissue residues.
From 1978-1985, Dr. O'Rangers was a national expert in Analytical Biochemistry in the Division of Science, Office of Regulatory Affairs, FDA. Following that position, he was a Principal Scientist in Analytical Biochemistry for the FDA until 2002. From June 2003 until more recently when his health prevented him from doing so, he was President and Chief Scientist for Analyticor, a consulting service.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Dr. Eleanor A. O'Rangers of Bellcamp, MD; his son, John R. O'Rangers of Frederick; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Edward C. O'Rangers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 25, 2013 from St. Joseph on Carrollton Manor, Parish Center, 5843 Manor Woods Road, Frederick, MD 21703, where the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of services. Officiating will be Father Lawrence Frazier.
Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Building Fund, P.O. Box 33, Buckeystown, MD 21717.
