Dr. James R. Grumbine, DVM, 86 of Unionville, MD passed away on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Edith Drake Grumbine.

Born August 13, 1922 in Unionville, MD he was the son of the late Frank Sterling Grumbine and Sarah Sappington Grumbine.

He was a 1939 graduate of Liberytown High School. He was appointed as an alternative candidate to the US Naval Academy.

He attended Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama and he received Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1945. He practiced large animal veterinary medicine in Frederick and Carroll counties.

In addition to his wife, Edith he is survived by his three sons, James D. Grumbine, Charles R. Grumbine and Stephen C. Grumbine all of Unionville, MD and a daughter, Susanne Norton and husband Michael of Lilburn, Georgia, three grandchildren, Jane Grumbine Smith, Silence Grumbine and Carlye Norton and three great grandchildren, Nelson, Brooksie and Carter Smith.

He is preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Francis Levine Grumbine, MD.

Visitation: Friends may call the Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Ave., Walkersville on Tuesday, November 4 from 12:00-7:00 PM where the family will be present to receive friends from 5:00-7:00. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday night at the funeral home at 7:00 PM with Rev. David A. Coakley officiating.

Interment will be on Friday November 7, in Veasey Chapel Cemetery, Covington County, Alabama.
