Dr. James E. Stoner, Jr., 91 of Walkersville, Maryland, died August 20, 2009 at Northampton Nursing Home, Frederick, Maryland. He was the husband of Eliza Stoner, his wife of 65 years

Born on June 25, 1918 in Frederick, Maryland, he was the son of the late James E. Stoner and Hazel Eyler Stoner.

Dr. Stoner was hard working, steadfast and trustworthy loving husband, father and friend. He graduated from Western Maryland and University of Maryland Medical School.

He entered the Army in 1944 during World War II and served for 2 years and then began his medical practice in Walkersville with Dr. Carroll Easterday.

He was in practice for almot 50 years with several doctors including Dr. Ernest Dettbarn and Dr. B.O. Thomas, Jr.

He retired May 1, 1994 to finally fully enjoy his leisure time. During his college years James led a band Stoner and his Pebbles. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, gardening and playing cards. One of his greatest loves was jazz. He made many trips with Liza to the Sacremento Jazz Festival.

He was very active as a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Glade Valley Lions Club, Walkersville Fire Dept. He served on the Walkersville Town Council and the Walkersville F&M Bank Board.

He was a member of the Frederick County Medical Society.

In addition to his wife Eliza, he is survived by his daughters, Anne Humphries of Roanoke, Va., Tish Sawyer and husband Tom of Spokane, Washington, Betsy Weber of Walkersville,Md. and Mary Stoner, Cool,California.

Grandchildren Michael, Rebecca, Rhianna, Erin and Ben, Great Grandchildren - Maddi and Emmi, sisters - Kitty Zinkhan of Baltimore, Md., and Helen Dettbarn of St. Michaels, Md.

He was predeceased by a son Jimmy Stoner.

Services: A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 28,at 11:00 AM.at. St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Walkersville, Md with Rev. Mark Foucart officiating.

Burial will be private and family only.

The family request in lieu of flowers contributions be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, Pennsylvania Ave., Walkersville, Md. 21793
