Dr. Dennis John Donohue, 78, of New Market, Maryland, passed from this life on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at Lorien in Mount Airy, MD. He was the loving husband of 56 years to Coral Anne Donohue, his childhood sweetheart.
Born on January 12, 1945, in Hempstead, NY, he was the son of the late John Joseph Donohue and Virginia Helen (Armbruster) Donohue. He graduated from Uniondale High School in New York and received a degree in chemistry from Saint John's University in New York in 1966. He started working in the Patent Office before attending medical school.
Dr. Donohue graduated from George Washington University in 1972. After medical school, he joined the United States Army and served at Walter Reed Army Medical Center where he received an internship in Internal Medicine. He worked his way up to Lieutenant Colonel and completed a Cardiology Fellowship. He received the Meritorious Service Medal.
Dr. Donohue went on to private practice with Cardiovascular Consultants, P.A. for over 30 years where he was affiliated with Washington Adventist Health Care Medical Center in Takoma Park and Shady Grove Hospitals.
He loved coaching youth soccer and teaching cardiology.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Brian Patrick Donohue of Maryland, Colin Phillip Donohue of Virginia, and Keith Ryan Donohue of California; granddaughters, Brooke, Kylie, Delaney and Piper; a sister, Sharon Newsome, and brothers, Timothy Donohue and John Terence Donohue.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, MD. 21771.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 17, at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, 4103 Prices Distillery Road, Ijamsville, MD 21754.
Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. at a later date.
