Douglas "Dougie" Hamilton, Sr., 54, of Rocky Ridge passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on October 19, 2017, after a courageous battle with ALS. He was the loving husband of Sharon Phelps Hamilton, his wife of 30 years. Together they have two sons, Dougie Jr. and Kevin.
Born on August 18, 1963 in Frederick, he was the son of James and Doris Hamilton of Monrovia.
Dougie was a graduate of Linganore High School and was a very dedicated employee of Pleasant Construction for 33 years.
He enjoyed being with family and friends, farming, hunting, camping and riding his Harley. He loved helping others. The family would like to thank Kelsey Hurley for her love, dedication and care given to Dougie during these last 15 months.
In addition to his wife, sons, and parents, Dougie is survived by his brother, Mike Hamilton (Amy); sister, Connie Stevens; and brother, Donald Keeney (Connie); uncles, Bobby and Chris Weller; mother and father-in-law, Barbara and Allen Phelps, Sr.; sister-in-law, Karen Deal; brother-in-law, Allen Phelps, Jr., numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lawson and Francis Weller, and John and Lottie Hamilton; and a brother-in-law, Eddie Stevens.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 25 from the funeral home.
Interment will follow in Tom's Creek Cemetery.
