Douglas K. Sheiss, 67, of Frederick, passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at Frederick Memorial Hospital after an extended illness with his family at his side.
Born August 6, 1947, in Ringgold, Maryland, Doug was the son of the late Woodrow Jennings and Margaret Kretsinger Sheiss.   He was a graduate of Smithsburg High School, class of 1965, and the Hagerstown Business College.  He served as Controller of Miscellaneous Metals, Inc., of Frederick for the last 21 years.
Doug is survived by his wife of 43 years, Kay Snowberger Sheiss, and his daughter, Adrienne Sheiss and her husband Michael Grossnickle of Middletown.
He is also survived by four siblings: Linda Masters and husband Terry of Hagerstown, Terry Sheiss of San Francisco, CA, Daryl Sheiss and wife Penny of Larwill, IN, Jewell Schiess and husband Warren Chan of Petaluma, CA, his mother-in-law Mary G. Snowberger of Deltona, FL, sisters-in-law Patricia Warrenfeltz of Hagerstown and Fay Slowe of Deltona, FL and many nieces and nephews.
Doug was an avid hunter, fisherman and conservationist, relishing any opportunity to be outdoors and in the woods surrounding his home.  He took particular enjoyment in watching the deer, wild turkeys and fox that shared his piece of heaven on earth, and in joining good friends and family members on hunting trips in the Midwest.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Doug’s life at a reception on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at the Gambrill State Park Tea Room, 8602 Gambrill Park Road, Frederick, MD, 21702, from 3-5:30 p.m. with a program of remembrance at 4 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to two of Doug’s favorite charities:  the Wounded Warriors Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org , or P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS  66675, or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org , or 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105.
