Douglas Seekins

Born on August 19, 1942, in Medina, New York, he was the son of the late Elmer Orlando and Anna (Pieronkiewicz) Seekins.

Doug, a long time resident of Rohrersville, Maryland, moved to Naples, Florida in 2005.  He recently relocated to Frederick, Maryland.

Doug served in the United States Air Force from 1961 until 1964, where he earned the experience and clearance he needed to continue his career at Western Union at Fort Detrick.  He was assigned to work with the Department of Defense AUTODIN system.  Upon retiring in 1997, he became an employee of Hekimian Laboratories, Inc. where he enjoyed traveling as part of his extended career.

He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Rohrersville, where he served as a Lay Speaker until he transferred his membership to Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Naples.

Doug was very active as a volunteer in the community.  He served the Rohrersville Ruritan, CASA, and Grace Place, among others. He faithfully served as a Hospice volunteer for over twenty years, and spent his last days in the care of the organization that he supported and loved.

He is survived by his former wife and close friend Yvonne Bland of Rohrersville; two daughters, Suzanne A. Seekins of Naples, and Stephanie A. Smith and husband Tommy of Frederick; one son, Jason Smith of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; two sisters, Eileen Paulson and husband George of Ithaca, New York, and Teresa Cohen of Lake Mary, Florida; two brothers, Dennis Seekins and wife Janet of New York, and Gregory Seekins and wife Vera of Tacoma Park, Maryland; two sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Seekins of Ellicott City, Maryland and Mary S. Prassina of Catonsville, Maryland; and brother-in-law Thomas C. Bland of California; and nine grandchildren who were the delight of his heart.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and will be deeply missed by his friend and companion, Sherry Post of Naples, Florida.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce and Brian Seekins.

Friends are invited to join the family for a memorial gathering from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro.  Burial services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
