Mr. Douglas Edsel "Doug" Day, 70, of Mt. Airy, died suddenly Saturday, July 18, 2015 at University of Maryland Medical Center. He was the husband and loving friend of Mary Lou Day.

Born July 11, 1945 in Frederick County, he was the son of the late Laura Ann and Jesse Downey Day, Jr.

Doug was a retired DC Firefighter. He was an avid golfer and was working at The Links at Challedon at the time of his death. He was a loving father, grandfather and best friend. Doug will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Laurie Day VanBibber and husband, Michael, of Frederick; Dana Douglas Day and wife, Christina, of Florida; and Downey Brooks Day of Mt. Airy; six grandchildren, Emily Anne VanBibber, Taylor Anderson, Braxton Day, Ethan Day, Alyssa Carter, and Jaidah Carter; a brother, David Ellis Day and wife, Lisa, of Mt. Airy, and their children, Ashley and Jesse; and numerous in-laws.

He was predeceased by his mother and father-in-law, Jack and Rosemary Brooks.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, where a memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 25th. Officiating will be the Rev. Phil Ayers of Howard Chapel Ridgeville United Methodist Church.

Inurnment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Fellowship luncheon will follow at Howard Chapel Ridgeville United Methodist Church.
