Dorothy L. Billard, 91, former round dance instructor, yoga teacher, and bridge enthusiast, died March 14 at Frederick Memorial Hospital following a long illness. She was a long-time Bethesda resident before moving to Thurmont and then Frederick, Maryland.
Mrs. Billard was active in many women's clubs in Bethesda and Frederick, MD, including Town Club, Chevy Chase Woman's Club and Frederick Woman's Civic Club.
Born Dorothy Eugenia LeMay on October 27, 1918 in Crockett, Texas, she was the daughter of Sonley Robert and Edward Dorothy LeMay. Sonley LeMay was a school superintendent and one-time candidate for governor. She graduated with a teaching certificate from University of Texas at Austin in 1938 and immediately married a fellow student, Jules B. Billard, her husband of almost 72 years. Before moving to Bethesda, they lived in numerous cities across the United States including Fort Worth, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, and Leonia, New Jersey.
She was the mother of four children, including three sons who graduated from Yale University.
The eldest son, Philip, died in 1996. She is survived by her husband, Jules, her other children Stephen, of Huntington Beach, CA, Barton, of Fredericksburg, VA, and Andrea Cook, of Middletown MD, her brother Robert LeMay, of Corsicana, TX; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Services: The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Sunday, March 21st from 1:00-2:00PM. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00PM with Rev. Richard Broome officiating.
