Dorothy Genevieve Dolores Dinnis

Mrs. Dorothy Genevieve Dolores Dinnis, 84, of Frederick, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Country Meadows Retirement Community in Frederick. She was the wife of the late James Samuel Dinnis who passed away in 1994.

Born on July 3, 1924, in Boston, MA she was the daughter of the late John and Eva Griffin. Her fraternal father passed away when she was seven years of age. Her mom remarried August (Gus) Grabis whom Dorothy considered her step dad. He passed on in 1998 at which time he resided with her. She had two adopted sisters, Eva who is deceased and Phyllis, whose maiden names were Grabis.

Dorothy and her husband Jim owned and operated several food service concessions at numerous locations in the Wheaton, Maryland area which included: the Connecticut Belair Swim Club, Candyland, Grubbs Pharmacy, Glenmont Bowling Alley and The Melody Room. Mrs. Dinnis was at one time a member of both the Moose and Elk's clubs and over the years enjoyed performing in club talent shows, bowling, dancing, playing cards and bingo.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Ann Tyler and son in law Nelson Wayne Tyler, Sr. of Dickerson; 3 grandsons: Nelson W. Tyler, II and wife Oiris, Gregory Prescott Tyler and wife Lisa and Chad Stephen Tyler and wife Michael; 6 great grandchildren: Nevada, Cameron , Conor, Chase, Miranda and Chandra

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 3-5 and 7-9 PM on Wednesday, February 18, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 19, at St. Mary's Church and Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima, 18230 Barnesville Road, Barnesville with Rev. Kevin P. O'Reilly as Celebrant; assisted by Deacon David Cahoon.
Interment will be following the mass in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring.
