On January 14, 2019 Dorothy Mae (Vacek) Zulli, beloved wife of the late Colonel Phillip H. Zulli and loving mother of three children and four grandchildren, passed away at the age of 92.
Dorothy was born August 9, 1926 in Nebraska, to the late Frank and Anna (Rysary) Vacek. Shelived in Omaha until 1947 when she married and moved to the Washington metropolitan area wherethey raised their family.
Dorothy received many honors for her work at the Department of Defense
where she was employed as an executive assistant at the Joint Chief of Staffs. She and Phillip retired in 1980 and moved to Keedysville, Md. and later to Frederick, Md.
Dorothy’s main love in life was her family. She made every gathering a special occasion with savory Italian or Czech meals cooked with joy and presented with love. She was known for her infectious smile, great sense of humor and a childlike appreciation of life which she shared readily with her grandchildren. Her favorite hobby was connecting with nature through her breathtaking gardens. She also enjoyed the beach at Ocean City, Md, interior decorating and was an avid reader.
She is survived by her son John Zulli and wife Michelle, daughters, Pamela Zulli and husband Dr. Irv. Wainer, Barbara D'Emilio and husband Timothy; grandchildren, Nicholas and Gianna D'Emilio, Phillip and Jordan Zulli and brother Rudy Vacek.
The family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 1-3PM.
Interment will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Guide Dogs of America.
