Dorothy Mae "Dottie" Tritapoe , 87, of Knoxville, Maryland, passed from this life on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Vindabona Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Braddock Heights, Maryland. Her husband, Robert M. Tritapoe, passed away February 21, 1997.
Born September 19, 1929, in Hagerstown, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late William R. and May Lillian Barnhart Mullenix.
Dottie was a member of the Brownsville Church of the Brethren where she was choir director for 20 years. She was a choir member, played the organ and served on various church committees.
For 20 years, Mrs. Tritapoe began working with the Brownsville 4-H Girls Club beginning in 1952. She started writing for the Brunswick Citizen when it was first published in 1971 and continued writing for 44 years. She was the first female member of the Pleasant Valley Ruritan Club, serving as secretary for many years. She worked at the Pleasant Valley Elementary School as Parent Involvement Coordinator for 20 years, retiring in 1992. Dottie began teaching piano lessons beginning in 1992 when she retired, teaching for 24 years.
She is survived by daughter, J. Rebecca Parody and her husband, Chris, of Hagerstown and son, Dean R. Tritapoe and wife, Wendy, of Knoxville; daughter-in-law, Donna K. Tritapoe of Knoxville; sister-in-law, Sylvia Mullenix of Knoxville; grandchildren, Amy D. Tritapoe and finace, Jeff, Julia M. Tritapoe, James E. Tritapoe, Taylor V.M. Tritapoe, Desiree Wentzell and husband, Rex. Rashell Wilt and fiance, Tray; three great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Colin and Samantha; niece, Holly Vaughn and husband, Rick; nephew, William R. Mullenix, III and wife, Cindy; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert B. Tritapoe.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.
A celebration of Dorothy's life journey will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the Brownsville Church of the Brethren in Knoxville with Rev. Alan Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Old Brownsville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Road, Knoxville, MD 21758.
