Dorothy Smith

Dorothy Owens Smith, 87, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed from this life on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at Meritus Medical Center.

Born on December 15, 1927, in Marion, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Robert L. Owens, Sr and Mattie (Miller) Owens.

Dorothy graduated from Gaithersburg High School. She immediately began working for, and eventually retired from, the National Institutes of Health.

She loved to cook, bake, crochet and fish. Dorothy enjoyed anything with her family. She was a very warm hearted person and the most giving person you could have met.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Michael William Smith, Sr. and his wife Catherine of Boonsboro, Maryland; two grandchildren, Michael William Smith, Jr, and his wife Stacey and Jeremy John Smith, all of Boonsboro; four great-grandchildren, Kaylee Smith of Boonsboro, Lacey Smith of Boonsboro, Josie Smith of Rohrersville, and Michael William Smith, III of Boonsboro; one brother Albert "Bud" Owens of Wilmington, North Carolina; many nieces and nephews including Jerry, Sally, Pam, Darlene, Debbie and Kay.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2015, at 3:30 p.m. at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 53 North Main Street in Keedysville.  Rev. Eric R. Moser will officiate.
