Dorothy Smith

Mrs. Dorothy Mae "Dottie" Smith, 75, of Rocky Ridge, died Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Frederick Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was the loving wife of Lewis S. Smith.

Born July 27, 1941 in Jimtown, she was the daughter of the late Pauline R. (Curry) and Chester Fogle, Sr.

Dottie retired from Frederick County Public Schools after many years as an administrative assistant with the Central Office.

She was a member of Elias Lutheran Church in Emmitsburg where she sang in the church choir and was a church deacon.

She was a member of the Moose Lodge in Frederick, the American Legion Post 121 in Emmitsburg, Amvets Post 7 in Thurmont, the Maryland retirees, and a former member of the Thurmont Lions Club and Emmitsburg Grange.

Dottie enjoyed reading, swimming, sewing and knitting.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Jeffery Smith and wife, Paula, of Rocky Ridge; a grandson, Austin Lewis Smith; and two brothers, Robert Fogle and wife, Arlean, of Thurmont, and Chester Fogle, Jr. and wife, Linda, of Woodsboro.

She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Louise Brunner.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2016 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St.,Thurmont. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 20th from the funeral home. Officiating will be the Rev. John Greenstone.

Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
