Dorothy Elizabeth Reed

Dorothy Elizabeth Reed, 94, of Frederick, MD, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024 at Heartfields Assisted Living at Frederick. She was the loving, devoted widow of Vernon Edward Reed, who preceded her in death on March 18, 2009. Born on March 24, 1930, in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late William Hamilton Webster Sr. and Helen Ilene (DeAtley) Webster.

Dorothy formerly lived in Gettysburg, PA where she and Vernon moved following their retirements. They enjoyed traveling, collecting antiques, gardening and spending time with family and friends on their farm. Dorothy is survived by three children: Verna Spivey, Mary Whalen (deceased) and husband Philip (deceased), Elizabeth (Ann) Milbourne and husband Charles, and Helen (Ilene) DeSimone and husband Joseph (deceased); 5 grandchildren: John Powers (Mary Beth), Matthew Milbourne (Dawn), Heather Gorman, Jennifer Blackburn (Michael), Joseph DeSimone (Sara), as well as 15 great-grandchildren.

 In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Hamilton Webster Jr. and twin sister, Frances Jane Gunther.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to her private caregivers, staff at Heartfields Assisted Living at Frederick, and Frederick Health Hospice. Memorial donations may be made to Frederick Health Hospice. 

Dorothy and Vernon will be reunited in a military funeral to take place at a later date.
