Dorothy Martin

Dorothy A. Martin, 92, of Thurmont, Maryland, passed from this life on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Franklin L. Martin who died in 1993.

Born on September 17, 1924, in New Philadelphia , OH, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Mary Fraley Tharp. She was a homemaker. Dorothy attended the Thurmont United Methodist Church and was a member Thurmont American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed working outside and baking, but most of all loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are two daughters: Sandra Long and husband Allen of Waynesboro, PA and Judy Black and husband Dennis of Thurmont; three grandchildren: Jim Black of Thurmont, Matthew Harbaugh and wife Amy of Baltimore and Valarie Harbaugh of Baltimore; two great grandchildren: Hunter Harbaugh and Logan VanHouten both of Baltimore; a sister, Wanda Ludwig and a brother Ronald Tharp both of Ohio, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her "adopted grandson" Jacob Long. The family would like to offer a special thanks to their friends and caregivers, Bonnie and Jessica Yingling.

The family will receive friends from 12-1 PM on Tuesday, January 24, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 East Main Street, Thurmont, where services will begin at 1:00 PM with Rev. Bob Hunter officiating. Interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
