Dorothy Lewis

Mrs. Dorothy Brennan Lewis, of Thurmont, Maryland, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at her home. Born in Utica, New York, she was the first child of Francis C.J. and Clara Anna Brennan. Her family was all with her as she recently celebrated her 90th birthday.

Dorothy was a 1948 graduate of the College of New Rochelle with a major in biology and a minor in chemistry. She worked in Utica, New York, as a case worker for the Department of Social Services. On February 17, 1951, she married Price Lewis, Jr. They had seven children: six sons and one daughter. Dorothy and her family moved to Maryland in 1964, where she owned and managed Pen-Y-Glyn farm, raising Angus cattle for over forty years. For over ten years, she was also the office manager for Lewis Brothers Construction. Dorothy was a parishioner of St. Anthony's Shrine. She had a keen interest in and broad knowledge of local, national, and world affairs and was a highly skilled bridge player. She was the family genealogist, and included within her many interests were reading, sewing and birding.

Dorothy is survived by four of her children; Christopher James, Deidre Anne Lewis-Boswell, Brendan Connors and wife Phyllis, and Floyd Brennan; eight grandchildren, Nathaniel and Gloria, Brendan II, Thomas II, Ian II and Jacob, and Floyd Jr. and Clara; a great-granddaughter, Carly; her sister, Margaret B. Moore; and sixteen nieces and nephews. Brendan II was her first grandchild. She was pre-deceased by her parents; her husband Captain Price Lewis Jr; three sons, Price III, Thomas Reynolds, and Ian Llewlyn; her grandson Nicholas; her son-in-law R. Alan Boswell; and her brother John Francis Brennan.

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 10:00am at St. Anthony's Shrine in Emmitsburg. Interment will be in the spring of 2017 at St. Mary's Cemetery in Clinton, New York.
