Dorothy Smith
August 16, 1924 — June 19, 2017
Dorothy Irene Smith, 92, of Frederick, died on Monday, June 19, 2017 at Kline Hospice House peacefully with family by her side.
She was born in Unionville, MD on August 16, 1924. The daughter of the late Clarence and Ruth May, Sr.
Ms. Smith was a long-time member of Brook Hill United Methodist Church and was active with the church in many ways from Treasurer, serving on many boards and committees to enjoying the company of the Wise Owls group. She also loved spending time with friends and family. She enjoyed camping and travelling extensively both locally and abroad. She loved to crochet, especially prayer shawls and had made over 80 of them that are now blessing many families. She also did cross-stich, played scrabble, did puzzles and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and suduko.
She was a career woman who took great pride in work. She was loved at every place she worked. She retired from Frederick Business Properties after 35 years. Prior to that she worked at Eyler Associates, Inc, Frederick; USA Biological Laboratories, Ft. Detrick and Ox Fibre Brush Company, Frederick.
Ms. Smith is survived by her daughter, Bonnie J. Wastler; her son Rodney A. Smith and wife Rebecca both of Frederick. Three grand-children; Angela Harris and husband Tony of Frederick; Melissa Line and husband Tim of Hagerstown; Justin Smith and wife Katie of Ijamsville. Seven great grand-children; Taylor Line, Matthew Line, Colby Line, Alexis Harris, Sophia Smith, Scarlett Smith and Sawyer Smith.
She was the oldest of 13 children. She is survived by 4 brothers; Truman May and wife Gladys; Charles May; Ray May and wife Barbara; Raymond May and wife Shirley. 5 sisters; Gloria Caudill and husband Dan; Nancy Caudill and her partner Bob Boyer; Pat Main, Grace Blickenstaff and Rosie Ray. Many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Norman May, Clarence May Jr., Harvey May and son-in-law, Franklin T. Wastler.
The family will receive friends at Brook Hill United Methodist Church, 8946 Indian Springs Rd., Frederick on Thursday, June 22, 2017 from 10-11AM where a funeral service will begin at 11AM. Pastor Dana Werts will officiate.
