Dorothy E. Holland

Dorothy E. Holland, 83, of Ijamsville, who's Sunset was on Friday, April 21, 2023, while surrounded by her family when she was accepted into the arms of our Lord at Frederick Health Hospital. She was the wife of the late Robert  Preston Holland who died in 2008.

Her Sunrise was on September 13, 1939, in Ijamsville and she was the daughter of he late Herman Leroy Carter, Sr. and Marcella Virginia Snowden Thompson. She was the last of her immediate family and will be missed by all. Her love of children became a career, working the Villa Learning Center in Centerville. Dorothy loved cooking and spending time with her family.  

She is survived by two children: Donald Dorsey and Valerie Dorsey; nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; two brothers-in-law: Roland Dorsey and Merle Lyles; a step daughter, Debra Jacobs and husband Walter and their son Adam; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by six brothers: Merle Thompson, John Thompson, Elmer Thompson, William Thompson, Herman Carter, Jr. and George Carter; and three sisters: Vernice Dorsey, Ursula Stewart and Mary Lyles. She will also be remembered by many close friends including Arlene Whims, Nancy Randolph, Catherine Biggus, Brenda Foreman and Thelma Ambush. 

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, April 29, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick where a celebration of Dorothy's life will begin at 11:00 AM. Her Pastor Vivian Jones will officiate. Interment will follow at Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery in  Ijamsville, MD.
