Dorothy Gladhill

Mrs. Dorothy R. Gladhill, 79, of Thurmont died on Monday, June 21, 2010, at Kline Hospice House, Mt. Airy. She was wife of Ray "Dick" Gladhill, her husband of 58 years.

Born on December 2, 1930, in Hamilton, OH she was the daughter of the late Zachary and Polly Roberts Ritchie. After graduating high school in Hazard, KY, she enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where she met and married Airman Dick Gladhill. Upon their discharge from the military, Dick and Dot returned to Mountaindale, Maryland where they owned and operated a grocery store and raised 2 sons. After selling the store, She worked for the Dept. of Energy, retiring in 1987 after more than 30 years service. Dick and Dot then retired to Woodsboro where they joined Grace-Rocky Hill Lutheran Church. She was also a member of AMVETS Post 7, American Legion Post 168, and the Lewistown Social Club.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Gary Gladhill of Walkersville; 3 grandchildren: Jason Gladhill of Thurmont, Aaron Gladhill of Walkersville and Amanda Mariani and husband Chris of Walkersville; 2 great grandchildren: Isabella and Anthony Mariani. Mrs Gladhill was preceded in death by a son, Dale Gladhill; and 3 sisters.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Wednesday, June 23, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick where services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 24, with her pastor, Bill Lundgen officiating.

Interment will take place in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick
