Mrs. Dorothy Shoemaker Fisher, 89, passed away on Thursday, August 5, 2016, at St. Joseph's Ministries, Emmitsburg, MD.

Born June 14, 1927, in Buffalo Mills, Bedford, Co., PA, she was the daughter of the late Frederick M. and Anna Hillagass Shoemaker. She was the loving wife of George M. Fisher of Walkersville, MD for 65 years.

She was a graduate of Thompson Business College York, PA. She had a long career in banking and retired from Frederick County National Bank in Frederick. As an Army wife she enjoyed travel and with her husband visited 49 states and many countries in Europe. Dorothy was an accomplished pianist, loved gospel music, and regularly played and sang in church choirs. She was an active member of the Walkersville United Methodist Church. Dorothy will be remembered for her loving smile and great sense of humor.

In addition to her husband, George, she is survived by sons, Thomas F. Fisher of Frederick and George M. Fisher, Jr. and wife, Lorrie, of Yellow Springs, MD; granddaughters, Kerri Soucy and husband, Jon, of Glen Ridge, NJ and Melissa Fisher of Yellow Springs; great-granddaughter, Addison R. Soucy; brother, Paul Shoemaker and wife, Nora, of Bedford, PA; sister-in-law, Pearl Shoemaker of Buffalo Mills; brother-in-law, Alvin Biggins of Grand Rapids, MI; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by brother, William Shoemaker; sister, Martha E. Biggins; and half-brother Robert L. McVicker and wife,Virginia.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Avenue, Walkersville.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 10th at Walkersville United Methodist Church with Pastor Richard Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Glade Cemetery, Walkersville.
