Dorothy Butts

Dorothy Esther (Poffenberger) Butts passed away May 17, 2021 at Ravenwood Assisted Living in Hagerstown, MD at the age of 94.  She was born on December 12, 1926 to the late Alvey Clarence and Anna Ruth (Ford) Poffenberger of Locust Grove, MD.
She was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church of Locust Grove, where she was the organist for many years.
She graduated from Boonsboro High School in 1943 at the age of 16, and was a graduate of Hagerstown Business School.  After graduation, she was employed at the Washington County Courthouse.  She then worked for the Washington County Board of Education as a traveling secretary, spending one day each week at 5 elementary schools.  She took her typewriter and adding machine to schools at Sandy Hook, Sharpsburg, Keedysville, Fairplay, and Downsville.  Her final employment was with Bast Furniture Store in Boonsboro.
Dorothy is survived by daughters Cynthia Abbott of Frederick, MD and Brenda Mullendore(Ted) of Hendersonville, NC,  grandchildren Jennifer Mullendore-Evans(Josh) of Asheville, NC, Chris Abbott(Kathryn) of Charlottesville, VA, Jeremy Mullendore(Melanie) of Catonsville, MD, Jason Abbott(Nicole) of Portland, OR, and great-grandchildren Natalie Abbott, Laurel Abbott, and Roan Evans. She is also survived by sister, Anna Lee Kepler, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by sisters Hilda Hughes and Marie Poffenberger, and brothers-in-law Harry Hughes and Dale Kepler.
The family would like to thank Ravenwood Assisted Living for the wonderful care they provided over the past several years.
Arrangements are being handled by Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home. There will be no visitation.   A private graveside service will be held at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Locust Grove at the convenience of the family.
