Dorothy Barger

Dorothy Jane (Shipley) Barger, 89, formerly of Boonsboro, MD, passed from this life on Monday, July 31, 2017 at Greenfield Assisted Living in Hagerstown.
Born March 16, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Lemuel R. and Carrie C. (Taylor) Shipley. Her husband, Charles Albert Barger, preceded her in death in 1985.
She was a graduate of Boonsboro High School in 1946. Dorothy was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church in Boonsboro.
She was employed for 11 years with M.P. Moller Organ in Hagerstown and retired in 1990 from the Washington County Public School System as assistant cafeteria manager at Boonsboro Middle School.
Dorothy was a member of Clopper-Michael Post 10 American Legion and Boonsboro Volunteer Fire and Rescue Ladies Auxiliary, and AARP.
She is survived by her daughter, Denise E. Waltz and husband, Mark, of Smithsburg; her son, Charles A. Barger, Jr. and wife, Mary K., of Boonsboro; brother, Roger Shipley of Ponder, Texas; step-daughter, Michele Beal of Friendswood, Texas; five grandchildren, Kathleen Unger, Kathryn Barger, Samantha Barger, Jennifer Reynolds and Timothy Waltz; and four great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by a sister, Viola Talley.
A funeral ceremony will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Rev. John W. Schildt will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Keedysville.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 4, 2017 at the funeral home.
