Mrs. Doris M. Warthen, 68, entered into the loving arms of her Savior on Friday, June 1, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the loving wife of David E. Warthen for 48 years.
A life long resident of Thurmont, Doris was born on March 2, 1939 the daughter of the late Maurice and Ethel (Favorite) Stambaugh. Doris dedicated 30 years of service to the Board of Education in the field of the Fine Arts.
Accomplished in music, she was a former organist for both St. Anthony Shrine Parish and Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Doris directed the choir at Mountain View Ministries and especially enjoyed being part of the Christmas programs and Cantada's.
She enjoyed traveling to different destinations like Las Vegas, but cherished the times spent at the beach with her loving family. She dedicated her life to the Lord and touched everyone she knew.
Surviving besides her husband are her children, daughter Lisa Wyatt and husband Chris of Thurmont; a son, Paul Warthen and wife Ashley of Harpers Ferry, WV; five grandchildren, Daniel, Steven, and Michael Hoke, Sara and Katie Wyatt,; sisters, Lois Late, Celia Fraley and husband Carroll; brother Lyman Stambaugh and wife Betty, all of Thurmont. Several nieces and nephews. She leaves behind many friends, especially Mary Walko.
The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Hudhud and his wonderful clinical staff.
Doris was also preceded in death by a sister, Frances Clem, a brother, Charles Stambaugh, niece Linda Clem and nephew Larry Clem.
Visitation: The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 3 to5 and 7 to 9 PM at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, MD.
Services: Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at 10:00 AM in the Evangelical Bible Church, 14698 Albert Staub Road, Thurmont, MD with Pastor Jeff Shaw officiating. Mrs. Warthen will lie in state one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Cemetery with Daniel, Steven, and Michael Hoke, Thomas and Timothy Fraley and Chris Wyatt serving as pallbearers, and Sara and Katherine Wyatt serving as honorary pallbearers.
