Doris Ann and Nelson Marshall Schwaner, II

The Schwaners

Doris Ann Schwaner (Heatherly), 85, of Frederick, MD, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021. She was the wife of Nelson M. Schwaner. She was born July 18, 1936 in Canton, NC, to the late Brownlow and Inez Heatherly and later became the loving wife of Nelson M. Schwaner.

Nelson Marshall Schwaner II, 79, of Frederick, MD passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2021.  He was the husband of Doris A. Schwaner, who predeceased him by just one day.  He was born April 27, 1942 in Lawrence, MA, to the late Nelson and Annie Mae Schwaner.

Nelson and Doris were long-time members of Brookhill United Methodist Church.

Most know Doris from her many years working at Food Lion on Rosemont Avenue.  She never met a stranger and was known for her friendly smile. She was the ultimate mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Nothing gave her more pleasure than seeing her grandchildren and, of course, her own children. She loved flowers and would not miss an opportunity to plant hundreds every year in her yard.  Doris touched everyone's heart, whether it was someone she had just met or someone she had known for years.

Nelson was a retired Master Sergeant in the US Army.  He was very proud of his service to our country.  He went on to work for Ideal Buick, GMC for over 20 years.  Nelson was a gentle giant, a big man in stature, yet a gentle soul.  He was most content in his recliner with his dog, Mindy, on his lap.  He loved his family and sacrificed so much for them.

Nelson and Doris leave behind their devoted daughter, Debbie Kachman and son, Michael Schwaner; their grandchildren, Cody Dodson (Jennifer) and Jessica Beck; great-grandchildren, Connor, Hailey, Niko, Cairon and David; and many nieces and nephews.

Doris leaves behind a brother, Mickey Heatherly (Carol). She was predeceased by four siblings, Peggy Keyser, Jeanne Smith, Don Heatherly, and Russell Heatherly.

Nelson leaves behind sisters, Audrey Barker, Susan Iannuccillo and Marsha Karbowsky.  He was predeceased by a brother, Gordon Schwaner.

In addition, Nelson and Doris leave behind some very special and close friends: Rick Tehansky, Donna Rice, Alice Droneburg, and Doris’s cousin, Ruth Mcelreath.

The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to their long-time physicians, who kept them with us through the years: Dr. Barakat and Dr. Branislav Romanic. Also, thank you to many kind and wonderful nurses and staff at FMH, Tranquility of Fredericktowne, who took care of them this past year.  Finally, to the staff at Fahrney Keedy, thank you for the compassion, not only to Nelson and Doris, but to their family over the past few weeks.  We will never forget your kindness.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. A Celebration of The Schwaners’ lives will begin at 1 p.m. with Reverend Dana Werts officiating. The family respectfully requests masks be worn by attendees who are not vaccinated.

Burial will be private.
