Doris Wolfensberger

June 19, 1925 — March 30, 2014

Doris Mae (Shirley) Wolfensberger, 88, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Charlotte's Home in Boonsboro.

Born on June 19,  1925 in Williamsport, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Cecil and Mildred Laura (Gossard) Shirley.  Her husband, Glenn Edgar Wolfensberger, preceded her in death on May 1, 1996.

Doris worked part-time as a cafeteria worker at schools in Boonsboro and Keedysville, and was a volunteer at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.  She also was a volunteer at Kemp Horn Medical Day Care Center in Smithsburg, Maryland, the First Hose Company of Boonsboro, and at the Boonsboro Carnival.

She attended various Methodist churches in the Boonsboro community, and was a member of AARP as well as the Auxiliary of the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro.

She is survived by her three sons, David E. Wolfensberger and wife Bernice Ann of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, Wayne M. Wolfensberger of Boonsboro, and Mark E. Wolfensberger and wife Rosemarie of Hagerstown; and one brother, Siebert Shirley of Leland, North Carolina.  She is also survived by three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step-grandsons; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Doris was preceded in death by her brother, Stanley Shirley; one great-granddaughter, Madison Evanosky; and her son-in-law, Blaine W. Smiley.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro.  A funeral ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. that evening, with Rev. Dr. Robert Apgar-Taylor officiating.

Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
