Mrs. Doris Jane Gatrell, 89, of Sharpsburg, MD passed away Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Meritus Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Floyd E. "Buck" Gatrell, they met while working at Victor Products and were married in 1947.
Born March 7, 1929 in MD, she was the daughter of the late Marion Arthur and Clara Mae (Callin) Getridge.
Doris was a member of Sharpsburg Christ Reformed United Church of Christ. For many years she was a caregiver and provided a home for children in need and began her working career at the age of 15, retiring from Engstrom Precison in 1981. Prior to that she worked at Londontown Manufacturing and Victor Products. Doris was also a member of the Sharpsburg American Legion Auxiliary. Doris was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be greatly missed. In her spare time she enjoyed playing Bingo and going to the casino to play the slot machines. In her final years she received great comfort from her 2 lap dogs Nita and Bubba and fierce protector Tank.
She is survived by her two daughters Linda K. Burker and husband Larry of Sharpsburg and Diana L. Nave and partner Mike Habel of Keedysville; grandchildren Michael Burker, Kelly Ingram, Tracy Longerbeam, Brian Webber and Brooke Tarmon; 14 great-grand children and 8 great great-grandchildren; sisters Pearl Marshall of Boonsboro, Jeanette "Peachie" Knight of Sharpsburg and brother Gary Getridge of Boonsboro and numerous special nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by sister-in-laws Patsy Getridge, Shirley Getridge and Ollie Getridge.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Brenda L. Webber; granddaughter Jessica Nave and grandson Matthew Nave and 1 great grandson; brothers George Getridge and James Getridge and Garnet "Buck" Getridge; sisters Meta Getridge, Virginia Getridge, Lillian Lapole and Lena Willoughby and her half brothers Harold Getridge and Marion "Pete" Getridge.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt appreciation and recognition to Brian Webber and Brooke Tarmon in providing care and comfort to Doris in her final years. The family would also like to thank Roy and Nancy Tarmon for opening their home to her during her final weeks.
The family will receive friends at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home on Monday, March 19, 2018 6-8PM where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 20 at 11AM.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Washington Co. Humane Society, 13011 Maugansville Rd., Hagerstown, MD 21740 or the Potomac Valley Volunteer Fire Department, 2202 Dargan School Rd., Sharpsburg, MD 21782.
Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
