Doris Cordell

March 19, 1926 — January 1, 2014

Doris Almira (Grumbine) Cordell, 87, formerly of Country Club Road in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Quincy Village in Waynesboro where she had been a resident since December 2008.

Born on March 19, 1926, in Yarrowsburg, Maryland, she was daughter of the late Jesse West and Lavina Mae (Spencer) Grumbine.  Her husband of fifty-eight years, Charles W. "Bill" Cordell, preceded her in death on April 24, 2011.

Doris was a member of the Brownsville Church of the Brethren in Brownsville, Maryland, where she and her loving and devoted husband were married on January 2, 1953 by Pastor Newton L. Poling.

Although she never had her own, Doris loved children.  She enjoyed tending to her vegetable and flower gardens, and African Violets indoors.  She also enjoyed Sunday drives in the country.  Doris had an affinity for music, especially church hymns.  Although her memory failed her in later years, she was still able to recall lyrics to her favorite hymns.

She was preceded in death by her infant sister, Mary Jane Grumbine.  She is the last of her immediate family and is survived by cousins; a sister in law, Crena Anderson of Hagerstown Maryland;  and several of her husband's nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, January 9, 2014 beginning at 1:00 p.m. with a funeral ceremony beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Road, Brownsville, Maryland.  Rev.  Alan M. Smith and Rev. R. Thomas Fralin, Jr. will officiate.  Doris will be laid to rest with her husband at the Brownsville Heights Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to the Quincy Village Benevolent Care Fund, 6596 Orphanage Road, Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, 17268.
