Donna M. Mashakas

Donna Marie Mashakas, aged 83, passed away in Fairfax, VA on Thursday, November 7, 2024.

Born April 5, 1941 to the late Stephen and Kathryn Dietrich in Pottsville, PA. She graduated with high honors from Marian Catholic High School in 1959 in Tamaqua, PA. She received her Registered Nursing Degree from Sacred Heart Nursing School in Allentown, PA in 1962, and was awarded the honor of being named “Miss Sacred Heart” for her excellence as a student. 

She was preceded in death by her husband and high school sweetheart, Stanley “Stosh” Mashakas, who passed away in November of 2022. 

Donna is survived by her loving children, Stosh Mashakas and his wife, Elizabeth, her daughter Michelle Detommaso, and her beloved grandchildren Gabrielle and Stosh Mashakas. She is also survived by her brothers Bill Dietrich and wife Cindy, Dr. Steven Dietrich and wife Mary Jean, and sister Pam Milligan.

Remembered for creating strong family/friend traditions such as holiday parties and an annual crab feast, her biggest impact is leaving a world that she helped make better by doing good for others. It is one of many wonderful legacies she leaves behind.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday November 17, 2024 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702. Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday November 18, 2024 at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 118 E 2nd Street, Frederick, MD 21701.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
