Donna Lee Bradshaw-Bainbridge, 93, of Frederick, Maryland passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 26, 2025. Donna is survived by her husband Ross Bainbridge, son David and his wife Cheryl, Danny and his wife Kayla, Doug and his wife Lisa and Diana and her husband Roger and was predeceased in death by her first husband Don Bradshaw and sister Mary-Jean Litchfield.
Born Donna Lee Koons, daughter of Mary (Mollie) and Clarence Koons in North Henderson, Illinois on February 29, 1932. Donna had one older sister, Mary-Jean, and attended Country grade school. In 1950, she graduated from Alexis High School and enrolled in Western University for 2 ½ years. Donna transferred to St. Lukes Hospital in Chicago - graduating with RN and B.S. degree in nursing from University of Illinois. In 1955, Donna taught nursing at St. Lukes for one year and then moved on to different places of work. She worked at Culver Military Academy one summer before moving to Denver Colorado to work in infant surgery at Children’s Hospital for two years. Following that, Donna returned to St. Lukes to work in the med-surgery unit. Donna met her husband, Don, in Chicago who she had 4 children, oldest, David, Daniel, Doug, and Diana while residing in Homewood - suburb of Chicago. While the children were young, Donna worked in a doctor’s office in Bethesda, MD. Once the children were grown, Donna took a job at Shady Grove Hospital working in the recovery room, head nurse and laser center and endoscopy suite. Donna and Don divorced, and Donna continued working at Shady Grove Hospital until her retirement in 1997. In 1999, Donna and Ross moved to Williamsburg, Virginia, where she lived until 2008. Following, Ross and Donna moved to a retirement facility called Homewood at Crumland Farms in Frederick, Maryland and finally settled at Country Meadows, also in Frederick to be closer to family.
Music was a large part of Donna’s life - she started performing at the age of 8. She grew up singing in the church choir and being active in music all throughout high school and college. After graduating from nurses training, she became active in music again. She was a member of the Rockville Music theater, Chicago Heights Drama Group, Lyric Opera, and the National Christian Choir for 8 years. Moving to Williamsburg, she sang for the Bruton Episcopal Church Choir, Williamsburg Women’s Chorus, and Sweet Adeline’s Choral Group. In recent years, she sang in chorus called Encore and the Notables, which was a chorus at Crumland Farms. Donna is survived by David (Cheryl), Danny (Kayla), Doug (Lisa), and Diana (Roger), Susan (Steve), Keith (Jenny), Neil (Linda), Cheryl (Andy) - Grandchildren, Taylor, Colby, Tyler, Rilee, Bailee, and Jackson, Lucy, Mckenzie, Katie, Mathew, and Steven.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2025 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, with a celebration of Donna's life to begin at 12 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
