Donald "Sam" Armstrong, Sr.

Donald "Sam" Lee Armstrong, Sr., 77, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at his home.

Born on August 29, 1938 in Chewsville, Maryland, he was the son of the late George and Florence (Palmer) Armstrong.

Sam was a 1956 Graduate of Boonsboro High School.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1960 until 1963.

Sam had previously worked 23 years as a tool and die maker for the American Optical Company in Frederick, Maryland, and he retired in 2003 from Rose Enclosures in Buckeystown, Maryland.

Sam was member of the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis K. (Morgan) Armstrong; one son, Donald Lee Armstrong, II and wife Kimmy of Hagerstown, Maryland; one grandson, Donald Lee Armstrong, III of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania; and one great grandson, Hayden Armstrong.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Robert and George Armstrong.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2016, at the Boonsboro Cemetery. Rev. John D. Sumpter will officiate. Military honors will be rendered by the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro.
