Mr. Donald F. Thomas, 72, of Mt. Airy, died on Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Sibley Memorial Hospital, Washington, DC. He was the husband of Deloris D. Thomas, his wife of 46 years.

Born on June 3, 1935, in Oak Hill, WV, he was the son of the late Don Fernando and Pauline Hale Thomas.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-1958 and was a member of Gold Star American Legion Post 191, in Mt. Airy.

He earned his degree in accounting from Concord College in Athens, WV, graduating in 1962 and worked in Washington, D.C. for the U.S. Government until his retirement in 1991.

Donald attended the Mt. Airy Baptist Church in Mt Airy and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Hyattsville. He was an avid college basketball fan and enjoyed traveling, gardening, and country/bluegrass music.

Surviving in addition to his wife are 2 daughters: Pamela Thomas King and husband Marc of Herndon, VA and Beverly Thomas Himes and husband Allen of Bradenton, FL; 1 granddaughter, Lauren Nicole King of Herndon; 1 brother, Phillip Thomas and wife Anne of Wilmington, NC. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Helen Law and Mary Spahr.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 5:30-8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 15, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy

Services: Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, April 16, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, with Rev. Keith Vincent of the Mt. Airy Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Mt. Airy.
