Mr. Donald E.{Pete} Edwards, Sr., 64, of Jefferson, MD, was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 11, 2007, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He went peacefully from his home surrounded by his wife, Joan, his children and family.
Pete and Joan were planning to celebrate their wedding anniversary on Sunday, October 14th.
Born at home in Montgomery County on January 28, 1943, he was the son of the late Ralph and Mary Knight Edwards.
The majority of his life was spent as a craftsman. He enjoyed designing, creating, building and mentoring others. He was a perfectionist with high standards. He was a hero and friend to many who worked with him. Pete's extraordinary talents can be seen at the National Press Building, Smithsonian Buildings, Hotel Washington, Washington National Cathedral and many other iconic buildings in Washington, DC, as well as other locations.
Pete retired in 2004, not because he wanted to, but because he was diagnosed with lymphoma. He also loved gardening and spending time with his grandchildren. Pete was an avid Redskins and Orioles fan and NEVER missed a game! He loved life and loved to laugh. He left a lasting memory with everyone he met and will be greatly missed.
Surviving in addition to his wife Joan are 3 children: Debbie Butler and husband Ken of Ijamsville, Donny Edwards of Jefferson and Kevin Edwards of Clarksburg; 3 grandchildren: Brooke Butler, Faith Butler and Destiny Edwards; a sister, Betty Mills and 3 brothers: Charles Edwards and wife Wilma, Roger Edwards and Leroy Edwards and wife Lisen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Edwards.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Sunday, October 14, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.
