Mr. Donald E. "Donnie" Coleman, Sr., 71, of Mt. Airy passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Kline Hospice House following a three-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the loving husband of 31 years to Theresa A. Miller Coleman.
Born June 19, 1942 in Rockville, he was the son of the late Robert L. and Helen V. Emswiler Coleman.
Mr. Coleman was a produce clerk with Giant Foods for 30 years prior to his retirement. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of The American Legion Gold Star Post 191 in Mt. Airy. In earlier years, he enjoyed sports and coaching Little League baseball and women's softball teams.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Donald Coleman, Jr. and wife, Karen, of Reisterstown; Christopher Coleman and wife, Eileen, of Solomons Island; and William R. Coleman of California; four grandchildren; one brother, Douglas R. Coleman and wife, Lois, of Germantown; a sister-in-law, Anita Coleman of Ijamsville; and many nieces, nephews and good friends.
He was predeceased by a brother, Ronald Coleman.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 8 East Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, where a celebration of his life will begin at 6 p.m.
Inurnment will take place at a later date at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery.
