Donald W. Walling, 65, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed from this life to the next on Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at his home.
Born on August 23, 1949, in Hagerstown, he is the son of Louise W. (Babington) Howlett of Hagerstown, and the late George Junior Walling.
Donald was a veteran of the United States Army, having served as a gunner in the 1st Division, 7th Infantry during the Vietnam War.
He retired, having last worked as a mason for United Masonry of Virginia.
Donald was a member of the Dixon-Troxell American Legion Post 211 in Funkstown.
He is survived by his girlfriend, Sharon "Dee" L. Johnson of Martinsburg, West Virginia; one daughter, Michelle L. Mathias of Hagerstown; three sisters, Donna K. Ashbaugh of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, Tina M. Walling of Hagerstown, and Dorinda L. Carlson of Harpers Ferry; four brothers, Gary L. Walling, Gregory A. Walling and Enoch L. Walling, all of Hagerstown, and Cash L. Walling of Warfordsburg, Pennsylvania; and two granddaughters, Sidni M. Mathias and Maia A. Mathias, both of Hagerstown. He is also survived by his former wife and friend, Joyce E. Forsythe of Hagerstown, and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2015, at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Pastor Thomas Stottlemyer will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown, with military honors rendered by the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2015 at the funeral home.
