Donald Wachter

September 6, 1929 — February 6, 2015

Donald Loraine "Scotty" Wachter, 85, died suddenly on Feb. 6, 2015 at his home in New Midway, MD.  Born Sept 6, 1929 in Union Bridge, he was the son of the late Steiner and Pansy Stauffer Wachter.  Scotty was the loving husband of Norma "Peachie" Harris Wachter for more than 64 years.

Scotty was a graduate of Walkersville High School's Class of 1946.   He also attended the University of Maryland and an umpiring school in Cocoa Beach, Fl.
His love of animals and working outdoors led to a 40-year career as a dairy farmer.  Scotty owned Sunhaven Farm, where he raised purebred Holstein cows.

After retiring, he worked as a mower for Glade Valley Golf Course for 18 years.
Scotty was a member of Haugh's Mt. Zion Church in Ladiesburg.  He was also a member of Maryland & Virginia Milk Producers.  Locally he served as president and treasurer of the New Midway Elementary School PTA and was a leader for the New Midway Boy's 4-H Club. In his teens, Scotty won a trip to the National 4-H Congress in Chicago for his record book highlighting his safety project.

Scotty lived life to its fullest and was a friend to everyone he met.  He loved to golf, play cards, hunt and sports of all kind. Every morning he stepped outside, called to the birds at neighboring Deer Haven Zoo, and checked out the temperature.  He liked to watch birds, look for deer along the road and walk out on the Garden City Pier in Myrtle Beach to see how the fish were biting.  For more than 50 years, Scotty was a dedicated member of  a card party group that played pitch on Tuesday nights during the winter months.

Surviving are sons: Steve (Jan), Jay (Susie), Mark (Jennifer), Scott Wachter; daughter, Bonnie Dudrow (Kevin); grandchildren Keith (Tonia) Wachter, Kelly Byrd (Sidney), Jenifer Hipkins (Scott), Ryan Dudrow (Amy), Cody, Stacey and Blayne (Becky) Wachter; step-grandchildren Kelly and  Chris Willard, Ashley Lewis and Deverule Shafer; great-grand children Tyler, Libi, Josh, Jackson and Michael Hipkins, Ben and William Wachter, Jeffrey Byrd and
