Donald Snyder

Donald Lester Snyder, 84, of 10823 Roessner Avenue, Hagerstown, died Thursday, January 28, 2010 peacefully at his home.

Born Septemeber 7, 1925 in Fairfield, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Daniel Hubert Snyder and Helen Laura (McSherry) Snyder.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane (Huntzberry) Snyder in 1993.

Donald was a tractor trailer driver for twenty four and a half years for the former Hemingway Transportation of Hagerstown and later retired from St. Johnsbury Trucking in Hagerstown.

He attended Zellinger School in Zellinger, Pennsylvania.

He was a member of Teamsters Local 992 in Hagerstown.

Donald is survived by three daughters; Paulette Marie Hostler, Janet Elaine Snyder, and Helen Louise Kline, all of Hagerstown; two brothers; Sherman Snyder of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania and Samuel Snyder of Hagerstown, Maryland; twelve grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death  by one daughter, Brenda Lee Mellott; one son, Donald Eugene Snyder; two sisters, Ruth Brewer, Mary Naomi Dingle, Hazel Kauffman; four brothers, Herman Snyder, Hubert Snyder,  Alton Snyder, and Wayne Snyder.

A funeral ceremony will be held on Monday, February 1, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland, 21713. The Rev. Jonathan Laye will officiate.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 31, 2010 from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
