Donald Slifer

November 27, 1928 — April 4, 2020

Donald Slifer, 91, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed from this life on Saturday, April 4, 2020 at his home.  He was the beloved husband of Connie (Gigeous) Slifer for 60 years.  They were married July 5, 1959.

Born on November 27, 1928, in Locust Grove, Maryland, he was the son of the late Luther Beard and Orpha (Grimm) Slifer.

Donald was a 1946 graduate of Boonsboro High School.  He began working for Potomac Dyeing & Finishing and later retired from the Board of Education as a Custodian.  Donald was an 80 year member of Bethel United Methodist Church, where he served on several committees and was active in the kitchen.  He was also a member of the American Legion-Post 42 and he proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 during the Korean War.  Donald was an avid flower lover and spent much time in his garden.  He also enjoyed planting seeds to produce tomato plants that he shared with his friends every year.  No one had a bad word to say about Donald.  He was the same from the day they met until the last time they met.

In addition to his wife, Connie, he is survived by sister, Doris Mehaffey and sisters-in-law Verle Slifer, Shirley Slifer and Nadine Slifer.  His extended in-law family includes Gerald Gigeous, Genevieve Warrenfeltz, Rosalie Jones, Maynard Gigeous and Roy Mann

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Rodney Slifer, Ruth Reeder, John Slifer, William Slifer, James Slifer, and Paul Slifer.

The care, compassion and support provided by Hospice in the last days of Donald's life was greatly appreciated and the professional loving care of neighbor Carole he received will never be forgotten.

Services and interment will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to either Bethel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box B, Rohrersville, MD 21779 or Hospice of Washington Co., 747 Northern Ave, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
