Donald Settle Jr.

Donald Leslie Settle, Jr., 54, of Hedgesville, West Virginia, died unexpectedly on Saturday, January 14 at his home.
He left behind his wife, Beverly “Sue” Settle; parents, Alice Shirley Kidd Settle and Donald Leslie Settle, Sr. of Mt Airy, MD; sister, Alice Settle-Raskin, and her husband, Larry Raskin of Woodbine, MD; brother, John Leslie Settle, and his wife, Rebecca of Frederick, MD; nieces and nephews, Jessica and Matthew Raskin, Nicole Settle, Michael and Kimberly LeLeux; Sue’s mom, Isabelle H. Spitzer, and Sue’s close family of nine brothers and sisters.
Born in Washington, DC, Don grew up in Rockville, MD in a home with loving parents who opened their doors to his many foster brothers and sisters, extended family, local friends and neighbors. He considered many to be his best friend, including his life-long best friend, Bill Heavey.
He attended Robert E. Peary High School in Rockville where he graduated in 1975 to go on to take classes at Montgomery College. He later received his general contractor’s certification from the state of West Virginia. He was a self-employed contractor who enjoyed the challenge of home repair projects.
Don grew up in the city but had a love of the outdoors which began at an early age during his trips to the family cabin in Pennsylvania and summer visits to a family farm in southern Virginia. This led him to purchase land in the hills of West Virginia where he built his own home and family guest cabin.
He enjoyed entertaining and cooking for family and friends on the porch at his cabin in the woods and making crafts such as bird houses and wind chimes.
Although Don never had children of his own, he was a caring uncle and built a tree house in his yard, so his nieces and nephews could enjoy the outdoors as he did.
He was preceded in death by his sister Dianna Marnette Scott LeLeux; nephew, Shawn Brann; father-in-law, Benjamin Spitzer; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Spitzer.

The family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD on Friday, January 20, 6:00 - 9:00 pm, where the memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 21, at 1:00 pm. Interment will immediately follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway (US 15 North) Frederick, MD. Dr. Robert Chance will officiate.
