Donald Leo Rohr, Jr., 82, of New Market, MD, passed away on Friday, January 11, 2019, after a long illness.
Born October 24, 1936, in Baltimore, MD, Mr. Rohr was the son of the late Donald Leo Rohr, Sr. and Rose Gertrude (Maguire) Rohr. He was preceded in death by his brother Joseph Gordon Rohr.
Don is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bonnie Lee Marie (Blasco) Rohr; his children, Andrea Smith; Greg Rohr, and wife Susan; and Chris Rohr, and wife Peggy; his grandchildren, Maria Smith, and husband Allan Issenchmidt; Robert Smith and Patrick Smith; Steven Rohr, and wife Lindsey; Michael Rohr, and wife Caroline; Kelsea Rohr, Tessa Rohr, Dominic Rohr, Christa Rohr, Justin Rohr, Evan Rohr, and Maryssa Rohr; Joseph Rohr and Elizabeth Rohr; and his great-grandchildren Stephie, Lucy and Felicity Rohr; Sophia and Diana Rohr; Bevin Vadilla, Levi and Noah Gunn and Lydia Rohr.
Don graduated in 1954 from Loyola High School, Blakefield in Towson, MD. He was a graduate of Loyola College (now University) in Baltimore with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 1958 and commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army of the United States. He served in the Finance Corps and was first in his class at the US Army Finance School. He received an Honorable Discharge on November 29, 1965.
He was a Certified Public Accountant, worked in public accounting, was a comptroller for private industry and had his own income tax business, retiring in 2006.
Don was a member of Knights of Columbus, St. John's Council #1622 in Frederick and Kiwanis Club of Hagerstown. He also was a member of American Legion Post 11 in Frederick for 33 years.
Don and Bonnie were very active at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Frederick for more than 40 years and together received the Archdiocesan Medal of Honor for service to the church and community. Most recently, they attended St. Timothy Catholic Church in Walkersville.
They were members of many square dancing clubs throughout their marriage including most recently the Frederick County Promenaders. In previous years, they enjoyed golf and bowling.
Hours of visitation at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick will be on Monday, January 21 from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 8651 Biggs Ford Road in Walkersville on Tuesday, January 22 at 11am with Monsignor Richard J. Murphy as celebrant. A visitation hour will precede Mass from 10am-11am and a reception will follow Mass at St. Timothy. Interment with military honors will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, 2150 Mt View Road in Marriottsville, MD.
