Donald Lewis

Donald Lee Lewis of Davenport, Florida, and Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away on September 23, 2010, at Washington County Hospital.
Born October 7, 1928, in Cumberland, Maryland, he was the son of the late Ellsworth and Sara Wade Lewis.
He was a graduate of Allegany High School and Frostburg State College where he obtained his Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees. He retired from teaching having served at Boonsboro High School for 30 years. Don enjoyed working with the community youth by coaching football, baseball, basketball, track and field, and soccer. He also served as advisor to various school groups.
He married Helen Borror Lewis on June 30, 1952. Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Donna Dawson of Frederick, Maryland, and Dotti Whitt and husband, Bruce, of Arvada, Colorado; four grandchildren, Richard Dawson II and wife, Amber, of Frederick, Seth Dawson of Taneytown, Courtney Dawson of Bethesda, Kristen Zimmerman and husband, James, of Arvada, and one step-grandchild, Matthew Whitt and wife, Rebecca, of Westerville, Ohio; three great-grandchildren Nori Dawson, Kami Dawson, and Jonathan Decker; and three sisters Helen Williams of Frostburg, Betty Kimmell and Barbara McKenzie of Cumberland. He was predeceased by son-in-law Richard Dawson.
He was an active member of Mt. Lena United Methodist Church, Boonsboro, and Community of Faith United Methodist Church, Davenport.   He was a former member of Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church, Boonsboro, where he served and chaired various committees.
Don was member of Mountain Lodge #99 AF&AM, Frostburg; Palestine Council #16 and Ithiel Royal Arch Chapter No. 27, Hagerstown; and Ali Ghan Shriners, Cumberland; and Order of Eastern Star #89, Hagerstown. Other memberships include the Retired Teachers Association, Elks Lodge #378, and AARP.
The family will receive friends Sunday, September 26, 2010, at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland, from 5 to 7 p.m. The memorial service will be Monday, September 27, 2010, at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Mt. Lena United Methodist Church, 21234 Mt. Lena Road, Boonsboro, Maryland 21713.
